A young father was attacked recently while innocently going about his business. Attacked for no other reason than the Yobbish Mindset of some drunken youths. His report has been included as a comment to the Grievances of a Teenage Girl on this site.
Westfield is a great place to live. However, it has begun a slippery decline that if allowed to fester will see our area become a place of fear and trepidation.
We talk about the right of the young people and to be honest, having spent 25 years working with them, most young ‘adults’ are law abiding and respectful. However, these yobs are a disgrace and something needs to be done before our social order breaks down any further and the law of survival takes over.
Who is to blame?
Does the problem lie in the freedom of expression we allow without the responsibility that freedom brings?Does the problem lie in the disrespect for anyone outside their clique?
Does the problem lie in our education system that avoids competition and denies self esteem?
Does the problem lie in the Me-ist culture that is perpetrated in the UK today?
Or does the problem lie in that children are children and have the right to grow up with boundaries so they can understand how they are supposed to behave?
Perhaps the problem lies in us all looking outside for someone else to blame, to solve the problems, to pass by on the other side because it doesn’t affect us yet. Perhaps it is now time to stop talking, to stop blaming, to stop hidng and take positive action. Wherever the problem lies it cannot be tolerated any longer.
How do we make progress? Simple, we use the system. We Write, Phone, and Pester everyone – the Police, North Lanarkshire Council, Schools, Community Councils, Rosemary McKenna, Cathy Craigie, Bob Chadha, Public Meetings, ASBO hotlines, Scottish parliament, etc, everybody and anybody. We make our voices heard – loud and clear – This behaviour cannot and will not be tolerated any longer.
We use the sysems in place, we use the ASBOs and Parenting Orders, we use our community powers. We report EVERY incident, every misdemenour, every unacceptable behaviour and keep on reporting until those with the authority ACT and do something. I know they work on statistics so let us give them the real statistics – Start Reporting Officially.
Comments welcomed.Wilf.
