Grievances of a Teenage Girl

Posted by westfield on June 5, 2006

The Westfield Blog is now up and running and this Blog is your opportunity to have your say.

I received this anonymous comment today.  It is obvious from the tone of the letter that the writer feels strongly about the present social environment within
Westfield and it is for that reason I decided to take it out from the comment field and make it an actual posting.  That way it will be the first thing that is seen when people arrive at the web site.  If you have a comment you wish to make regarding this then please do so at the bottom.  I will also bring this to the attention of all relevant parties.

Grievances of a Teenage Girl Says:
June 5th, 2006 at 2:34 pm
I have lived in Westfield from the age of 8 and now that I myself am a teenager I feel the situation of teenage drinking, fighting, and vandalism has only escalated as the years have went by.
Westfield is place with a huge availability of drugs for which are sold readily and openly to my generation. I, myself, hate the place
Westfield has become and with younger siblings and cousins fear what
Westfield will soon be if it carries on like this. I spend a limited amount of time in
Westfield socially yet know of many youths, unfortunately it appears to be mainly boys, who not only take but sell drugs. This drug problem is never highlighted in the Cumbernauld News or anywhere else it appears, yet it is something which is prominent in our community. I am becoming increasingly angry at the fact that the place I live is filled with youths behaving inexcusably. The local shop “Morning till Night” is literally ‘hoaching’ in local teenagers hanging around and within the shop. I was appalled when visiting the shop on Friday night to find a teenage boy not only smoking in the shop but smoking at the take – away area where food is prepared. This surely calls for the attention of the police to disperse these groups who intimidate many people within our community. I myself know firsthand how tedious and boring Cumbernauld is to the younger generation but I do not take drugs, vandalise, or abuse my community. I would leave my name but feel I would then only become a target for those who cause me such anger. I do not wish to cause trouble, to irritate or anger those youths, but only wish to live in a place were I can go to shop, walk to the park, or simply invite my friends who do not live in Westfield around to my home without fear of intimidation.
Am I the only person who feels this way?
