About Us

What are Community Councils?

They are the voluntary organisations set up by the Regional Councils to express to the local authority and other public bodies the views of the community they represent.

Can I become a member and who is eligible?

Members are nominated and elected every 4 years but new members can be co-opted during the interim period up to a maximum number specified.  They must be on the electoral role and resident within the area they are to represent.

How often do we meet and what do we do?

There are monthly meetings from September to June which last approximately 1.5 hours.  In Westfield our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month and start at 7.30pm.  These meetings are open to the residents of Westfield and discussions take place about all aspects of living in the Westfield community.  The local community police and Councillor (Bob Chadha) attend our meetings and we can request officials from North Lanarkshire Council to meet with us to air any issues which require attention.

It is important that there is a good cross section of residents of all ages on the community council and that we are aware of any concerns that may arise.
