Dog Training Classes – Westfield Community Halls

Posted by westfield on February 17, 2008

John Thomson’s Cumbernauld Dog Training School are running classes in Westfield on a Sunday afternoon. John Thomson is a stalwart within the dog training world takes his responsibilities seriously and helps both experienced and new dog owners to get the best from their pets and ownership.

I recently had the opportunity to talk with John about potential problems of dog fouling and hygiene associated with having dog training classes within the local community hall. I carried out a survey and was completely satisfied that everything was being done by both the club and North Lanarkshire Council to ensure the health, safety and well being of all hall users and people within the local vicinity.

In fact I was very impressed with the procedures and protocols implemented by all parties involved. However, I was particularly impressed with John Thomson himself. He was not only willing to go the extra mile but actively encouraged his members to do the same by providing additional facilities.

Responsible ownership is an important part of owning a dog but it is not the only part. Knowing how to train it, integrate it into your community so that it is a welcomed sight and not a burden and looking after it properly so that together you can both have a long and happy life together. If all that sounds a bit much then I suggest you give John Thomson a call.

John is a qualified WSCDTA instructor and on the Scottish Canine Consultative Council who advise on dog related laws and policies at all levels of government from local community councils right up to the Scottish Parliament and is also currently involved with the proposed amendments to the Dangerous Dogs Act 1997.

John Thomson’s classes go way beyond being a simple dog training class and are a Community Dog Management Service (an idea pioneered in Alexandria by police dog handler George Cochrane).

Dog Training Classes are held on Sunday afternoons 12 Noon 4pm

All classes are taken by John Thomson who has been involved in dog training for over 25 years and is a fully qualified WSCDTA dog training instructor .

I would suggest that you visit Tannoch stables where an indoor school consisting of 16,00sq.ft thatis 200 by 80 ft is available for dog training use. There is car parking facilities abd toilets and is used by other dog training clubs. The problem of hygene does not exist as it is an indoor facility used by horses.

Thanks for the recommendation and I am sure that some residents within Westfield would be interested in knowing that Dog Training Classes are available at Tannoch Stables. However the reason for the original article was to show that the dog training classes at the Westfield Rooms are not a hazard to health due to the shared use of the hall and also that both Cumbernauld Dog Training Club and NLC have undergone a strict risk assessment. So yes I can agree with you that the Tannoch Stables may seem a better venue with regards to having no hygiene issues but I am sure that there are other health hazards associated with their shared usage.

  6. Hey there! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering
which blog platform are you using for this site? I’m getting sick and
tired of WordPress because I’ve had issues with
hackers and I’m looking at options for another platform.
I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of
    a good platform.

I have a 11 month jack russell (woody) he is very playful and jumps on people licks people and barks and nips at other dogs.
he was attacked by a bigger dog when he was 8 months.
He still doesn’t stay when told to.
I hope that you can help me in training him.
